Empower One Another – Call to Artists

Nozama Dance Collective and OnStage Dance Company present “Empower One Another,” a performance series in which companies will be paired with one another to collaborate and create an entirely new work. The theme of this performance is the female experience and female empowerment. We aim to bring Boston dance companies together, to collaborate and form partnerships, and for company directors and independent choreographers to discuss and share insights into the Boston dance community.

The performance will be the weekend of April 12th and 13th, 2019. Companies will be invited to perform their collaborative pieces, as well as 2 of their own existing pieces. Each company pair will perform in at least one performance throughout the weekend. Each company pair will be given 3 separate three-hour rehearsal blocks to create their new work. Rehearsals will take place at OnStage Dance Company (665 Salem Street, Malden MA). Companies can rehearse more frequently if desired, but will need to pay for additional space.

Please note that applicants can be established choreographers or independent choreographers. Additionally, while the theme of this performance is the female experience and the female empowerment movement, we invite choreographers, companies, and performers of all genders. We invite dancers of all backgrounds to come and share their stories.

Companies will be required to sell 10 tickets throughout the weekend, but also have the opportunity to earn money for their company for additional tickets sold beyond the 10 ticket requirement.

Application Fee: $25 paid to OnStage Dance Company (@OnStage on Venmo)
This fee goes towards your allotted rehearsal space rentals, and the opportunity to make money back through ticket sales.

Application Deadline: November 15th, 2018
Companies will be notified in late January 2019 of their acceptance and company match
Rehearsals will take place from February-March, 2019

There is a required Company Directors’ Round Table, in which directors will come together to discuss directing and choreographing for companies in the Boston area. This Round Table will take place in late January / early February, time TBD depending on directors’ schedules.
